Ron Simpson, PhD

Position: Administrator

Organization: Granny's Place

Why should this person be nominated? (What makes nominee unique; why should they be selected the winner of this category?
Dr. Ron Simpson owns four top-class board and care homes in Mission Viejo, called Granny's Place. He and his wife started their first home in 1994, as a way to care for her mother in a loving, homelike environment that did not resemble an institution. Over the past almost 20 years they have provided the same loving care and attention to countless residents and have helped to set the standard for top quality senior care in Orange County. They refer to their homes as "A Place where Dignity Lives".

When Dr. Simpson opened his first Granny's Place in 1994, there were only a few residential care homes in the area, and few families were aware of this excellent alternative to nursing homes. Now there are close to 1,000 licensed care homes in the county, (the highest concentration of anywhere in the country). Many changes have evolved over the years, but the philosophy of Granny's Place has remained unchanged, continuing to focus on providing top quality care and dignity.

For frail elderly, Granny's Place homes epitomize the benefits of living in a calm, homelike environment where care and meals and entertainment can be individualized according to the needs and personality of each resident.Dr. Simpson is always willing to speak to groups or individuals to educate them on the advantages of this type of care environment. Unfortunately, even today many families still think of large assisted living or nursing homes as their only options, so his advocacy is still needed.

What is this nominee’s involvement in senior care or senior issues
In 1995, Dr. Simpson helped to found and has served as President of a group called RCRN(Residential Care Resource Network),Inc. This is an exclusive network of board and care owners in South Orange County, with the goal of combining forces to provide quality training for their staff, to share ideas for improving services, and to provide regular group outings for residents. These outings are fun for all and greatly add to the enjoyment and quality of life for the residents.

Dr. Simpson is very humble and soft-spoken, yet he has made a large impact in improving quality of services to elderly residents. He is deserving of this award for setting a high standard of care and integrity, and serving as a role model for other care home owners.
