Julie Radford

Position: Staff RN

Organization: Anaheim Regional Medical Center

Why should this person be nominated? (What makes nominee unique; why should they be selected the winner of this category?
Julie Radford is a compassionate bedside nurse. She has been a Registered Nurse at Anaheim Regional Medical Center since March 2010 in telemetry, then ICU. Her patient population is the elderly patients requiring care in the hospital.

What is this nominee’s involvement in senior care or senior issues
Julie has been a nurse for three years and is so compassionate with them. She is often found at the bedside listening to her patients and their families. There are days you will see tears in her eyes because she is very empathetic. She wants to individualize her care to the patient and really gets to know them. She wants other nurses to get to know their patients as well, but the problem is that some patients cannot speak up for themselves. Julie decided to implement a hospital-wide program called "My Story". She saw the idea at another facility and worked with the originator to develop a large pamphlet that asks families to answer questions on their fathers/mothers or grand fathers/mothers. The pamphlet is large enough to accommodate photos of our patients when life was normal. The pamphlet is hung on the walls of the senior patients' room so EVERY care giver has the opportunity to get acquainted with the ailing patient. Julie really cares about her patients and is driven to influence others in how much we need to get engaged in patient care, not only her patients but all patients in our hospital.
