Why should this person be nominated
Dr. Mark Abramson has been a Kaiser Permanente physician for 30 years. He transferred to Long Term Care Dept. 4 years ago doing Skilled Nursing, Hospice and Palliative care. Per his KP biography, he “chose medicine as a way to connect with people and help them through difficult circumstances.” Thus, “getting to know his patients and their families is a privilege” for him.
It is a pleasure to know and work with Dr. A. I always hear compliments from patients and family how good he is as a physician. I remember one family member who thanked Dr. A for taking care of his mom and said…. “You know exactly what my mom needs, it’s like you speak her language.” As far as I know, the patient speaks English.
Another patient at the Skilled Nursing Facility requested for her toenails to be trimmed. She has diabetes so she needs to follow up with the Podiatrist. She had 2 choices: make a follow up appointment with KP Podiatrist, or pay privately for SNF Podiatrist. Dr. A’s solution was to trim the patient toenails and finger nails as well. And his reply all the time… “It’s ok I don’t mind, or sure.” He always goes above and beyond of what is expected of him.
He is truly a doctor who understands that care is more than just basic “feel good” medical terms; rather it must come from a deeper level of awareness. Dr. A deserves the Senior Care Hero Award for his kind, courteous, compassionate understanding for the seniors under his care.
