2015 Nominees Section
Organization: St Jude Centers for Rehab & Wellness
What role does your nominee have in senior care and senior care issues?
When a senior hero comes to mind I think of Barbara. She has served the senior community for over 30 years in Occupational therapy Her life’s work is devoted to helping seniors heal not only from many obstacles physically that must be overcome but from her gentle manner of kindness with her patients.
I have had the pleasure of working with Barbara since 1984. She has won the hearts of her co-workers and patients as well as the many professionals that work with her. I have worked with many and Barbara is a person who gives as much attention to detail and the healing of the mind as well as the body. Her skills do not end with her work. She also projects a warm, cheerful attitude to patients and family members.
I have seen her resolve conflicts and handle other difficult situations with remarkable patience and admirable tact. In the community she goes out of her way to help people in need She loves people, works hard, and always tries to lift the spirits of those around her. I believe these characteristics represent all that is good in our community, and I am pleased to nominate her for the honor of Hero Award of the Year.
Why should this person be nominated
Her ability to go above and beyond with people who are in need. I worked with Barbara and saw her in action she always used encouragement and was positive in the face of patients who had lost hope. Barbara helped them regain some of that hope by working within the frame of helping the frail elderly gain as much independence as possible. Her follow up skills and tireless work with seniors in rehab has made the difference in our community of seniors.
She is easily the most compassionate person I know--the kind of person who goes out of her way to help the less fortunate every day. It has been a privilege to know this brilliant and dedicated OT and humanitarian. Many local heroes go unnoticed and she deserves this award and many thanks for all she has done and continues to do for seniors.
