Gincy Heins

Gincy Heins

Position: Volunteer

Organization: Alzheimer's Orange County

What role does your nominee have in senior care and senior care issues?
Gincy Heins is truly a Senior Care Hero. Gincy is a loving mother, dedicated volunteer and passionate advocate. She is also the family caregiver for her husband who suffers from mild cognitive impairment. Shortly after her husband was diagnosed, Gincy dedicated her life to caring for her husband to ensure that he is well cared for as they face the challenges that come with dementia. When Gincy is not volunteering for Alzheimer's Orange County or caring for her husband, she spends time helping other members of the community cope with the stresses that come with caregiving.

Why should this person be nominated
Always putting family first, Gincy ensures her husband receives the care and support he needs while continuing to fulfill her role as a parent. Gincy became a Community Outreach Volunteer and Advocate for Alzheimer's Orange County several years ago as a way to give back to the organization that has provided her support along the way. It has been a passion of Gincy's to help raise awareness about the impact that memory loss has on our lives. Whether its driving her husband to a social class for brain exercises or to a City Council Meeting, Gincy is always there to care for her husband. Caregiving has become such a part of her life, she even co-authored the book 365 Caregiving Tips: Travel and Respite Practical Tips from Everyday Caregivers as a way to let other family caregivers know that they are not alone and that help is there for those who need it. Gincy has truly opened her heart to the senior care community and that is why she has been nominated for the Family Member Hero - People's Choice Awards. Alzheimer's Orange County, her husband, son, and the community is lucky to have Gincy as part of our lives.
