Why should this person be nominated
Dr. Smith has been practicing medicine for about 56 years now. Many of his patients have been with him for over 40 years – longer than many marriages! The reason his patients are so loyal is because he is absolutely focused on them as people, not billing numbers or diagnoses.

One such patient who has been with Dr. Smith for almost 40 years is 93-year-old “Charlie.” Charlie was still running his own business as a civil engineer into his 90’s, and was an active person. But in the recent year or so, his lung and heart conditions worsened to the degree that he was hospitalized and wasn’t given long to live. His cardiologist didn’t want him to go home; he felt he needed to be in a care facility, but Dr. Smith visited with Charlie and listened to his heartfelt request to go home. He immediately contacted a hospice company who got Charlie home within a day, and 36 hours later, Charlie passed peacefully in his home – right where he wanted to be. Dr. Smith gave Charlie the gift of going home.

When asked about why he is still working himself, Dr. Smith said, “I can’t do enough for my patients…it’s just the way I am.”
