2017 Nominees Section
Organization: CareMore Touch
What role does your nominee have in senior care and senior care issues?
Yvonne is a manager , overseeing the work of 10 nurse practitioners taking care of frail elderly who live in nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes in the Orange and Los Angeles counties.
She has worked for CareMore Touch for over 5 years. This interesting thing about Yvonne is that she was an OB/GYN doctor in China prior to her coming to the united states. Once here, she met and married, and then had 2 daughters, who took up her every waking moment. It wasn't until her daughters were in college that she decided to go to nurses training here. Upon graduating, she got a job at Long Beach Memorial and then enrolled in the BSN program, followed immediately into the Masters program and went to work as a nurse practitioner. Her passion for excellence led her to enroll in the doctorate program and now, once again, can be revered to as Dr. Wu!
Why should this person be nominated
Yvonne initially worked for a private doctor who had her managing patients from the San Gabriel Valley to Dana Point. She spent long hours doing tasks, but not making a real difference in the lives of these elderly.
Once she joined the CareMore Touch team, she was delighted to find she could spend time with her patients, their families and also with the management to assure everyone was working for the best interest of the patient.
Yvonne has precepted many student Nurse Practitioners and encouraged them to go into geriatric care.
Yvonne has spent many nights visiting a patient because this was the only time she could meet the family and review what the patient's needs are. She has gone out, with her husband as her side-kick, to actually deliver medication to a patient who had no money or means of getting his medications.
She has raised her daughters to be independent, college educated women, and does a lot of traveling with her husband, Jimmy, who is an endocrinologist, and speaks at conferences world-wide. Where ever she goes, she tells the story of how Touch cares for a frail population and shows that this model of care should be world-wide.
