Senior Care Hero Awards

The 2018 Senior Care Hero Awards at

The City National Grove of Anaheim

Now in our 8th fabulous year, SeniorServ’s Senior Care Hero Awards™ celebrates the unsung heroes in the senior industry - from seniors to veterans, physicians to caregivers, to volunteers and family with a heart for seniors.

The awards Gala will be held at the Grove of Anaheim, on Saturday, October 20th at 5:30pm. And returning as our guest host is KTLA Morning News personality, Henry DiCarlo.

Last year's event drew 600 guests, whose generosity helped raise over $260,000, providing thousands of meals and loving contact to at-risk seniors. The event received coverage from radio, cable TV, KTLA, print media such as the OC Register, Sunset magazine Senior Reporter, Newport Beach Life Style, and many social media venues.

All proceeds will benefit SeniorServ, who has been providing the Meals on Wheels program and other supportive services for at-risk seniors for over 50 years!

We are the largest non-profit Meals on Wheels and senior nutrition provider in Orange County. Our services include case management and in-home services, Adult Day Health Care programs, Care Management services to reduce hospital admissions and readmissions and our Friendly Visitor program which reduces loneliness and isolation. We want our community to share our vision of a world that honors people throughout life and engage in our mission to nourish the wellness, purpose and dignity of seniors and their families.

The public is invited to honor their dedicated and innovative heroes by nominating and voting online for the senior care professionals and senior supporters of their choice. Nominations and voting are open online from June 1 to August 31, 2018, and award recipients will be announced the evening of the event.

The event's Academy of Leaders, comprised of highly-regarded leaders and luminaries in the field of senior care, will select the final 2018 Senior Care Hero Award recipients, with the restriction that no Leader will be allowed to vote in a category that includes a member of his or her organization.

SeniorServ Celebrates Family – the one you were born into, and the one that forms around you.

The 8th Annual Senior Care Hero Awards

Anaheim, Calif. (April 1, 2018) – SeniorServ is proud to honor the heroes of the 8th Annual Senior Care Hero Awards (SCHA) at its black-tie gala on October 20, 2018 beginning at 5:30pm at the Grove of Anaheim. Referred to as “the Academy Awards of Senior Care,” last year's event drew 600 guests and recognized over 80 outstanding senior care industry and community advocates.

Highlighting our mission of caring for both seniors and their families, this year SeniorServ puts the spotlight on “family” - those who have shown dedication to caring for and supporting the senior community, and those who have figuratively and literally wrapped their arms around any senior or family member in need of nourishment for body or spirit in the field of senior care and advocacy.

We are proud to announce that our Humanitarian honoree this year will be Mayor Tom Tait of Anaheim. Mayor Tait has championed the concept of kindness in all its forms to his community by launching his “Hi Neighbor” campaign at the beginning of his term. Each year, his leadership inspired others to show kindness to everyone, seniors included. This year, his last in office, he is specifically focusing on seniors and reducing isolation and loneliness in that population.

Nominations and voting are open to everyone starting June 1st and continuing through August 31st at People’s Choice categories are selected by public voting and include Veteran, Family Member and Volunteer. The industry recipients are chosen by an Academy of Leaders comprised of highly-regarded leaders in the field of senior care and include the categories of Outstanding Caregiver, Social Worker, Nurse, Physician, Executive Director, and Senior Care Professional. All nominees and winners will be recognized at the October 20th awards program which includes silent and live auctions, dinner and live entertainment.

Our Event Chair is a senior advocate, gerontologist and Founder and CEO of Success in Aging Centers, Di Patterson, MSG, CPG. Alignment Healthcare, an Orange County-based health care management company that focuses on improving the health and wellness of seniors, is the event’s Platinum sponsor.

About SeniorServ
SeniorServ is at the forefront of creating programs and services that reduce hunger and improve wellness for at-risk older adults, with $.92 out of each dollar going directly to our programs and services. In addition, they are also the county’s largest nonprofit senior nutrition Meals on Wheels provider. Their mission is to nourish the wellness, purpose and dignity of seniors and their families through Meals on Wheels and case management services for older homebound adults, hot lunches and socialization at senior centers, adult day health care centers and care coordination. Serving nearly 10,000 at-risk seniors annually, SeniorServ marked their 50th year of service in 2017.

SeniorServ nourishes the wellness, purpose and dignity of seniors and their families in our community.  We are one of the largest safety net non-profit agencies for older adults in California in providing critical nutrition and supportive services that help seniors remain independent and in their own homes. Our goal is to ensure sustainability to meet the growing demand for senior services and to reduce dependency on government funding.

Last year alone:
  • More than 640,000 meals were served to nearly 1,300 hungry, lonely, homebound seniors, of which, 116 were veterans.
  • 273,000 nutritious lunches were provided to 7,200 older adults in 24 senior centers.
  • 600 volunteers spent 86,846 hours delivering meals and providing caring, supportive visits to at-risk seniors.
  • Approximately 250 clients attended our Adult Day Care programs, allowing them the opportunity to socialize and receive care outside the home, while giving much-needed time off to caregivers.
  • 186 clients received coordinated care and support, lowering hospitalization and improving quality of life and independence.

Meals on Wheels

SeniorServ prepares and delivers three meals daily to the homes of homebound, frail, socially-isolated seniors living in central, west and north Orange County.

Senior Lunch Program

We provide hot, nutritious lunches at 25 sites in Orange County and that provide the opportunity to socialize and help alleviate poor nutrition among the vulnerable elderly population.

Case Management

For older adults who are facing multiple problems that they cannot resolve on their own, SeniorServ's Case Managers evaluate individual needs and help connect them to community resources.

Adult Day Care Services

SeniorServ’s Adult Day Health Care centers in Anaheim and Santa Ana keep families together by providing a daytime alternative to placing a loved one in a skilled nursing facility. These centers maintain the dignity of older adults while providing support to families. Caregivers feel relieved and better able to handle the challenges of caring for an aging or disabled loved one.

Friendly Visitors

The Friendly Visitor Program meets the needs of both the isolated older adult and the needs of caring volunteers. Volunteers are linked with seniors that would benefit from receiving social interaction.  In many of the cases, meaningful relationships result from this program. Care Coordination

SeniorServ partners with health care entities and health plans to provide care coordination solutions that include pre-discharge assessment of the patient, early identification and response to health care risks and symptoms, education and support of patients and their families, home visits with telephone support and ongoing communication among all parties among other services.  For more information contact Annamel Medina, Care Navigator at: (714) 229-3371 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
