Since the mid-90’s, she has developed state of the art care facilities (Alzheimer’s Family Services Center) and key programs to provide emotional support, educational programs and professional resources to individuals and caregivers living life with dementia. Cordula’s research and teaching is grounded in her person-centered approach in training and equipping her clients, students and fellow researchers in the Southern California area. Describe how your Nominee has exceeded his or her Job Description, becoming a hero to you or others. Provide an example or as much detail as possible of the things that they do that go above and beyond their job description.
Those who have worked with and know Cordula can affirm her drive and strong spirit with helping others. Her tenacity in creating and changing care options for affected indivduals and their families has created a shift into a more person-centered approach to care. Cordula’s own experience as a caregiver for her brother, taught her that people are spiritual beings first, which “ignited (her) passion about reducing stigma and marginalization.” Her book, Psychosocial Studies of the Individual's Changing Perspectives in Alzheimer's Disease, exemplifies her advocacy in changing the cultural narrative regarding illness and dementia and how we connect with others. While many stories can be shared, her heart is best seen her generosity with others. In addition to volunteering with the Southern California Coalition for Spirituality and Aging, California Coalition on Person-centered Care and the Dementia Action Alliance, Cordula gives endlessly of her time and expertise to students, professionals and families alike. She is an inspiration to those around her.

Thank you, Cordula, for choosing again and again to follow your heart professionally. As a result of those very personal choices, the larger older-adult community has reaped the benefit of your keen mind, formidable skills and rich, warm heart for decades.
Cordula was the director of the Adult Day Care facility that my husband with Alzheimer's disease spent many days before his death. She had the staff well trained, the facility was managed beautifully, and had the full confidence of the Board of Directors. My husband was treated with kindness, was encouraged to draw and paint, his latent hobby, and Cordula knew him as well as the many other participants there. She was extraordinary, kept up with the latest research on the symptoms and treatment of the disease.
Cordula has been an instructor for LeadingAge California for several years. Our members never get enough of her presentations. She is passionate about senior care and teaching individuals new perspectives on addressing dementia care to seniors.
Cordula decided early on to dedicate her life to those most vulnerable and in need of compassionate care – those among us who have been marginalized through no fault of their own and often even by those most dear to them. A heartfelt thank-you, Cordula, for your passion, compassion, and your profound devotion to this calling.
Cordula shares her expertise in person centered and spirit centered care with professionals and lay persons who are caring for those with cognitive impairments. She is an inspirational and clear speaker who is able to get staff re-motivated by offering new perspectives and personal experience on various topics. Her insights and career are inspirational to me. Cordula demonstrates that she truly cares about people and the success of organizations and communities.
