I looked up the word “hero” in a dictionary and here is what I found: “A person who is admired or identified for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities”. I have to say I was a little disappointed in the actual definition because to me a hero is so much more than someone who is admired for doing great things. Let me explain. I feel a real hero is someone who does great things for others selflessly. Even if no one is watching them do it and no one will be aware of these great deeds you’re doing for someone else. A hero helps and gives to those who need the help without needing or wanting anything in return. A hero, to me, is someone who gives themselves to others without hesitation and does it without wanting or expecting anything back in return. They don’t do it for the fame or recognition, but just simply because they care and because it was the right thing to do. We rarely come across an individual with these characteristics, However, Patty Alexander fits into my definition of a hero without question. Patty inspires me to do more for others and quite frankly; to be more like her. Patty is someone who would literally take the shirt off her back and give it to someone if she saw them cold and shivering without a second thought. She goes above and beyond the call of duty not just on special holidays, but it is a way of life for her every day. She puts the needs of others before hers without even thinking.
I have observed her on more than one occasion personally move furniture for a client because they needed the help to move and there was no one else, she drove to another country (Mexico) to bring them back here to the states and helped find a place for them to live here, she spent her own money to help someone get medical care because they needed it and they didn’t have anyone to help nor the money to get it themselves. These are just a fraction of what she does daily. I wish I could list all the things she has done and continues to do, but this nomination letter would end up being a novel lol. We have to recognize real heroes like Patty so I encourage everyone to vote for her.
Her selfless ways, love, compassion and dedication serving the elderly is what makes her a true hero in my book. I am honored and privileged I get to work with her. She is an inspirational leader and I would like to thank her for being my hero and to so many others she’s helped over the years.
