Ana Iyeke

Ana Iyeke

Position: Program Aide

Organization: Alzheimer's Family Services Center

What role does your nominee have in senior care and senior care issues?
For the past four years, Ana has worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at Alzheimer’s Family Services Center (AFSC), providing direct care to individuals challenged by Alzheimer’s disease or another dementia. In addition to her role at AFSC, she takes care of patients at Sea Cliff Healthcare Center in Huntington Beach on the weekends.

Why should this person be nominated
Ana defines what it means to be a compassionate caregiver. When families drop their loved ones off in the morning, they are always greeted by Ana’s bright smile and warm heart. She knows more than just our participants’ names – Ana can tell you all about their past professions, memorable vacations, favorite pets, even childhood sweethearts! Whether she is helping to feed someone who has lost motor function or assisting with balance and mobility exercises in the health room, Ana attends to each participant’s needs with the utmost care and respect. Her nurturing, attentive disposition, coupled with a natural ability to redirect and reassure, helps to put even the most anxious participants at ease.

Unfortunately, Ana was recently diagnosed with lung cancer and is currently undergoing treatment. She is now experiencing firsthand the importance of compassion, love, and care. While we miss her presence here at AFSC, we know the outpouring of support from family, friends, and coworkers will help lift Ana’s spirits as she continues fighting this battle.
