Senior Care Hero Awards

The 2020 Senior Care Hero Awards at

The City National Grove of Anaheim

Now celebrating our 10th Anniversary, Meals on Wheels Orange County’s Senior Care Hero Awards™ celebrates the unsung heroes in the senior industry - from seniors to veterans, physicians to caregivers, to volunteers and family with a heart for seniors.

The awards Gala will be held at the Grove of Anaheim, on Saturday, October 17th at 5:30pm.

Last year's event drew 620 guests, whose generosity helped raise $280,000, providing thousands of meals and loving contact to at-risk seniors. The event received coverage from radio, cable TV, KTLA, print media such as the OC Register, Sunset magazine Senior Reporter, Newport Beach Life Style, and many social media venues.

All proceeds will benefit Meals on Wheels Orange County, who has been providing the Meals on Wheels program and other supportive services for at-risk seniors for over 50 years!

We are the largest non-profit Meals on Wheels and senior nutrition provider in Orange County. Our services include case management and in-home services, Adult Day Health Care programs, Care Management services to reduce hospital admissions and readmissions and our Friendly Visitor program which reduces loneliness and isolation. We want our community to share our vision of a world that honors people throughout life and engage in our mission to nourish the wellness, purpose and dignity of seniors and their families.

The public is invited to honor their dedicated and innovative heroes by nominating and voting online for the senior care professionals and senior supporters of their choice. Nominations and voting are open online from June 1 to August 31, 2020, and award recipients will be announced the evening of the event.

The event's Academy of Leaders, comprised of highly-regarded leaders and luminaries in the field of senior care, will select the final 2020 Senior Care Hero Award recipients, with the restriction that no Leader will be allowed to vote in a category that includes a member of his or her organization.

The 10th Anniversary of the Senior Care Hero Awards

Anaheim, Calif. (April 1, 2020) – Meals on Wheels Orange County is proud to honor the heroes of the 10th Anniversary Senior Care Hero Awards (SCHA) at its black-tie gala on October 17, 2020 beginning at 5:30pm at the Grove of Anaheim. Referred to as “the Academy Awards of Senior Care,” last year's event was attended by 620 guests, raising $280,000 and recognized over 80 outstanding senior care industry and community advocates.

Our theme this year - 10 Years of Celebrating A Heart for Senior Care Heroes!

Highlighting our vision of a world that honors people throughout life, our 10th Anniversary celebration is actually our “Tin” anniversary. We recognize that, just like tin, our clients are resilient; life circumstances may “bend” them, but with all our help, they don’t have to break. They can endure hardship, yet still remain true to themselves. And, just like the Tin Man of Oz, we will celebrate the heart of all those who care for precious older adults.

We are proud to announce that our Diamond sponsor for this very special celebration is Acacia Health – Home Health, Hospice & Palliative, led by owner Alex Agazaryan. Acacia’s mission is to provide superior quality services, comfort, assurance and care to their patients and families through the transitions of healthcare.  And, for the first time, our Lifetime Achievement honoree will not be revealed until the evening of the event!  All we will say is this person has been in the industry for decades, and is a very deserving recipient of this prestigious award.

We are also pleased to announce our Innovator sponsor for this year’s awards is GrandPad, led by Scott Lien and his amazing team of creative thinkers. Their mission is to improve the lives of millions of seniors by reconnecting them with their families, friends, and caregivers so we may live in a world where no seniors are lonely or isolated and every senior has an opportunity to live Grand!

Nominations and voting are open to everyone starting June 1st and continuing through August 31st at www.SeniorCareHeroAwards.org. People’s Choice categories are selected by public voting and include Veteran, Family Member and Volunteer. The industry recipients are chosen by an Academy of Leaders comprised of highly-regarded leaders in the field of senior care and include the categories of Outstanding Caregiver, Social Worker, Nurse, Physician, Executive Director, and Senior Care Professional. All nominees and winners will be recognized at the October 17th awards program which includes silent and live auctions, dinner and live entertainment.

Acacia Health – Home Health, Hospice & Palliative, led by Alex Agazaryan and his amazing team, is our Diamond sponsor this year, with a mission to provide superior quality services, comfort, assurance and care to patients and their families through the transitions of healthcare.

GrandPad will be honored as the 2020 Innovator Award recipient. Led by CEO and Co-founder, Scott Lien, the advanced GrandPad tablet and app is the smartest, simplest, and safest way to connect seniors with their loved ones so they never miss another memory.

Tickets for the October 17th event are $200 each and tables of 10 at $1800. For further information, or to become a sponsor for the event, visit www.seniorcareheroawards.org or call 714.229.5284.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Meals on Wheels Orange County nourishes the wellness, purpose and dignity of seniors and their families in our community.  We are one of the largest safety net non-profit agencies for older adults in California in providing critical nutrition and supportive services that help seniors remain independent and in their own homes. Our goal is to ensure sustainability to meet the growing demand for senior services and to reduce dependency on government funding.

Last year alone:

• We served 581,660 meals to 1,265 homebound seniors who also received case

management and supportive services.

• Nearly 9,000 older adults received 251,694 nutritious lunches and the opportunity for

social engagement in 23 senior centers.

• 600 volunteers contributed almost 90,000 hours —

• delivering or serving meals

           • providing friendly visits to lonely seniors

           • providing leadership through board or council membership

• 322 clients attended our Adult Day Services programs, enabling them to participate in activities, socialize and receive care and nutritious meals, while providing respite to their family caregivers.

• 124 clients received coordinated care and support, lowering hospitalizations and

improving their quality of life and independence.

SERVICE PROGRAMS

Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels Orange County prepares and delivers three meals daily, Monday-Friday, to the homes of homebound, frail, socially-isolated seniors living in central, west and north Orange County.

Lunch Café

We provide hot, nutritious lunches at 23 sites in Orange County and that provide the opportunity to socialize and help alleviate poor nutrition among the vulnerable elderly population.

Case Management

For older adults who are facing multiple problems that they cannot resolve on their own, Meals on Wheels Orange County's Case Managers evaluate individual needs and help connect them to community resources.

Adult Day Care Services

Meals on Wheels Orange County’s Adult Day Health Care centers in Anaheim and Santa Ana, and Adult Day Care in Buena Park keep families together by providing a daytime alternative to placing a loved one in a skilled nursing facility. These centers maintain the dignity of older adults while providing support to families. Caregivers feel relieved and better able to handle the challenges of caring for an aging or disabled loved one.

Friendly Visitors

The Friendly Visitor Program meets the needs of both the isolated older adult and the needs of caring volunteers. Volunteers are linked with seniors that would benefit from receiving social interaction.  In many of the cases, meaningful relationships result from this program. Care Coordination

Meals on Wheels Orange County partners with health care entities and health plans to provide care coordination solutions that include pre-discharge assessment of the patient, early identification and response to health care risks and symptoms, education and support of patients and their families, home visits with telephone support and ongoing communication among all parties among other services.  For more information contact Annamel Medina, Care Navigator at: (714) 229-3371 or This email address is being protected from spambots.
