Jean Turrell-Wright

Jean Turrell-Wright

Position: Volunteer Singer

Organization: Threshold Choir

Why should this person be nominated? (What makes nominee unique; why should they be selected the winner of this category?
My mother, Jean Turrell-Wright, has been a volunteer singer for the Threshold Choir. Two to three times a week (or more) she will go to the bedside of those at the threshold of living and dying and sing in a group of two or three singers. They sing with calm and gentle voices that provide soothing and reassuring environment for the bed bound senior, family and caregivers. 90-95% of those she sings for are seniors either in senior care facilities or private homes. Most often, they sing for seniors that are in hospice care.

What is this nominee’s involvement in senior care or senior issues
I have been so impressed with my mother's dedication to serving seniors in hospice care. She will often make multiple trips in one day to sing for various bed bound patients and she rehearses twice a month with 8-12 other singers to help new Threshold singers learn the music and how to act and behave in a hospice setting. My mother has shown such strength in performing this service- I am so proud of her love and kindness towards others when they need it the most.
