2014 Senior Care Hero Awards
On Saturday, October 18th, more than 550 guests attended the 2014 Senior Care Hero Awards Gala at the Grove of Anaheim to recognize heroes from the senior care industry. There were 4 People’s Choice honorees, and 14 recipients across categories such as outstanding caregiver, physician, nurse, and social worker, all of whom were recognized for their selfless acts of care and compassion while serving one of the most vulnerable populations, frail older adults. Event proceeds benefited seniors in need through programs offered by SeniorServ.
Among those honored was Jim McAleer, President and CEO of the Alzheimer’s Association Orange County. Jim received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his tireless dedication to those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. A complete list of the recipients can be found at http://www.seniorcareheroawards.org/about/2014-scha/2014-award-recipients.
Jim shared his thoughts on the event and SeniorServ. “You are changing lives with the work you do. It was heartening to see such joy as you showcased true “Heroes.” Please accept my sincere thanks for allowing me to participate in such a magical evening.”
Dr. Nancy Gin, Area Medical Director, Kaiser Permanente, said, “It was our great pleasure to help sponsor the Senior Care Hero Awards event. Once again, you and your team brought tears to the eyes of the audience, myself included, with the poignant stories of the many ways that SeniorServ touches lives and the great need that remains in the community. Thank you for a lovely and successful event!”
SeniorServ, the nonprofit event organizer, spotlights a full range of senior care heroes, from caregivers whose contributions are often overlooked, to physicians who specialize in geriatric care. Individuals who often do the most menial and often thankless tasks were recognized when they walked down the “red” carpet with celebrity-style photos taken by volunteer “paparazzi.” The honorees’ caring service was recognized on-stage while they were presented with Academy Awards-styled statuettes and given the opportunity to give acceptance speeches.
“It was one of the most heart-warming events I have ever attended,” said Lynn Daucher, past Director of the California Department of Aging and Vice Chair of SeniorServ. “It was wonderful to see caregivers, nurses and other heroes receive the applause of some of Orange County’s most prestigious senior and health care leaders. We were wowed and touched by the deep level of commitment of those who make such a difference in the lives of older adults.”
Event chair, Randy Platt, Senior VP of Operations, Hospice and At Home, Silverado Senior Living, shared this, “Caregivers often go about their day without concern for themselves, giving selflessly through commitment, honor and most often love! We recognized more than just caregivers--we honored ALL those who dedicate their lives to care for and support our Seniors!”
“Through this special event, we are delighted to be able to recognize the unsung heroes of senior care and help meet the growing needs of older adults in Orange County,” said Holly Hagler, President and CEO of SeniorServ.
The estimated $70,000 raised will benefit seniors in need through SeniorServ's Meals on Wheels and supportive services programs. SeniorServ is dedicated to helping older adults live independently and with dignity, secure in home, health and heart. In addition to meals, the nonprofit also offers case management and in-home supportive services, Adult Day Health Care programs and Care Transitions services to reduce hospital admissions and readmissions.
