2017 Nominees Section
Position: Outreach & Advocacy Specialist
Organization: Alzheimer's Orange County
What role does your nominee have in senior care and senior care issues?
Kristen first connected with Alzheimer's Orange County as she was the primary caregiver for her grandparents. Shortly after her grandmother's passing from Alzheimer's disease, Kristen wanted to give back to the organization that provided her and her family with so much support. In addition to her role as a full-time caregiver for her grandfather, she joined Alzheimer's Orange County as a student intern while she completed her bachelor degree in Health Science at California State University, Fullerton. With the completion of her internship, Kristen was provided the opportunity to be part of our Outreach & Advocacy team.
For the past three years, as the Community Outreach Specialist for Alzheimer's Orange County, Kristen has played an instrumental role in raising awareness about the impacts of Alzheimer's disease. Responsible for connecting families with resources available to those struggling with memory loss and other senior related issues, she regularly attends community health fairs, City Council meetings, networking events, and provides education presentations throughout Orange County.
Additionally, with a personal connection to Alzheimer’s disease, it was made apparent that she has a passion for advocating for those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Kristen was always eager to advocate and raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and provide organizational support when needed. Since expressing her passion for public policy, Alzheimer’s Orange County invited Kristen to support the organization’s advocacy efforts in Sacramento at the annual Alzheimer's Advocacy Day. During our day in Sacramento, Kristen was successful in presenting, engaging, and persuading public and political support towards the advancement of Alzheimer’s research, care and support.
