John is not just a case manager, he is an advocate for older adults and an exceptional human being. He focuses on helping connect the senior and family with the correct resources to help them have a life where they can thrive. John doesn’t hand off a case until he has ensured that he has done the best job possible for a positive outcome. This is what makes him stand out from others in his position.
The best way to describe why John deserves this recognition is to just highlight the things that he does. Here are a few examples of why John is a hero to so many of us:
John was referred a homeless patient to help. These are the hardest to assist as there are so many issues surrounding the reasons for their needs. This patient had many wounds and his daughter had no relationship. John didn’t even have an address with which to track him, but that didn’t faze John! He heard that the man lived in Anaheim. He went behind the ravine by Anaheim stadium, and spent quite a bit of time searching for him. When John was finally able to identify the man who needed the care, he tirelessly searched for a low-cost hotel to put him up, and found one so that the patient could finally receive the nursing care he required.
Another time, one of John’s referrals let him know he had no food in the house and no way to go out and get any. On his day off, John went to buy and deliver food to this patient. He also got nursing supplies and sent those to the patient as well because he wanted to make sure he got what he needed. John is not the 9-5, normal business day work man. He truly goes above and beyond.
And he doesn’t just serve older adults – he selflessly serves anyone needing help with no thought to his own safety. John actually saved a co-worker from being hit by a car in the Kaiser parking garage and ended up being hit by the car instead. That is the kind of guy John is.
There are so many more stories that illustrate his commitment to the care and safety of others. He goes above and beyond to make sure that the members he meets get the services they need to live a healthy, happy life.
He is a hero to all the members he helps and to his fellow employees, and I have not met any other social worker like him!
