Lauren was born and raised in our local Orange County community at Placentia-Linda Hospital. She started her healthcare career 4 years ago with The Pavilion at Sunny Hills while finishing her college degree at California State University in Fullerton where she earned a degree in cell and developmental biology. Lauren has a very unique story on how she began her career at The Pavilion. While balancing the demanding workload of her academic endeavors, Lauren started working with The Pavilion as a Valet attendant but was quickly recognized as a friendly, hardworking, and determined employee. She quickly moved into the building and started working in the social services department as a social worker. As a result of this career move, Lauren recognized immediately that she really had a passion for helping seniors and providing support to their families. After 3 years of dedication and hard work, she was promoted to Director of Social Services with The Pavilion and continues to go above and beyond for the patients as well as the team she works with every day.

Describe how your Nominee has exceeded his or her Job Description, becoming a hero to you or others. Provide an example or as much detail as possible of the things that they do that go above and beyond their job description.
Lauren truly sees all of her patients and their families as her own family. She builds a bond with them and they often still talk to her and follow up even after being home. We all know being in skilled nursing can be very stressful for the patient as well as their families and Lauren does everything she can to make their experience a little better even if that means just being an ear to listen to. In her own words she said “People remember how your make them feel not necessarily what you say”. Her team of social workers and case managers rave about their positive experience working alongside Lauren in an often very challenging role. She is known as the ‘consider it done’ person in the building which they described as meaning that anything you ask her to do she handles it and gets it done. She goes above and beyond to help anyone and everyone and is patient even in difficult times. Another team member said that she goes above and beyond in so many ways but one in particular that stood out was when she picked up medications for a patient on her way home from work after an already long day. This was just one small example of the dedication, and hard work that she puts in on a daily basis to make a difference in so many lives. I can't think of hero more deserving of this honor than Lauren Stowell!
